Second wind Posted on: 06-08-2006 @ 01:20 pm |

We are at an interesting time with Crabs. We have an excellent combination including long time Captain Dreadloche, offering guidance, veterans like Sadie who have graciously moved to our flag, returning former CD members like myself, Smegull and Mistyraven and a host of cabin people/pirates. Since we have started over, w have begun crew coffers and it will likely go over 20k tonight.
We have opened a stall (Weavery) and the ever-ambitious Sadie has already set a medium to long term goal of opening another (likely a tailor). If and when that happens, I will likely inherit more responsibility with the weavery, as now I currently mainly provide labor and deliver both sail cloth and hemp. Under the guidance of Sadie, who has studied trends and profit margins like an expert, the stall is currently hovering around 8-12 in the coffers. Hopefully in the next week or two we will get past the 20k mark at which point we will likely get involved in a lot more types of cloth. Sadie already is dabbling in making tan, which, like sail cloth, requires only hemp and she has purchased some red dye, so it will be interesting to see how that works out.
If there is a setback or concern it may be the newer members. In the past couple of days, I haven't sailed with them often and I fear that if we don't train and promote the subscribing members in the near future, we could begin losing some of our future stars. I will have to make an effort in the next stretch to meet up with some of them and help them in their quest to become officers.
As far as long term goals, the sky is the limit. I think most of us agree, owning our own shop is something we would like to do and it will be something we can talk about realistically maybe in the fall, especially if the stalls get to a level where they can begin making some hefty donations to the crew fund.
I have found in recent weeks, most of the goals I have had from my first two years in the game have returned, although I have learned from past mistakes that a slow and steady progress is more beneficial than jumping into things just for the sake of saying I have done it.
Some crew bonding events may be nice...I may look into something, like a crew or flag sloop race or something like that in the near future.
